Injections for Pain

Here at Michigan Health Centers in Essexville, we offer several options for PAIN CARE through injections TRIGGER POINT INJECTIONS – ULTRASOUND GUIDED A trigger point injection is an outpatient procedure designed to reduce or relieve back pain caused by trigger points. These small knots can form in muscles or in the fascia tissue leading to musculo-skeletal pain and indirect nerve pain in areas such as Neck, Shoulder, Scapula, Upper Back, Low Back, Hip and Sciatic pain. The medical provider uses a VERY SMALL needle to inject into the trigger point causing a decrease in muscle tension and nerve irritation due to muscle spasms. Typical medicine that is injected is a corticosteriod. Usually this procedure is covered by insurance(although everyone’s policy is different). For those of you that are more natural minded, we do offer a natural (botanical) nerve blocker for trigger point injections called Sarapin. Sarapin has been used for over 70 years and is considered a natural nerve blocker that targets the pain fibers without effecting the motor fibers. Our charge is $80-$100 per session for Sarapin JOINT INJECTIONS – ULTRASOUND GUIDED Our medical department is trained in all types of joint injections from large joints, like SI joints(sacroiliac), knees, shoulder, hip, etc to small joints like fingers, feet, elbows, etc. Many times people will find relief in as little as one session, although sometimes there is a need for multiple sessions. Typically Insurance will cover joint injections(although everyone’s policy is different). We utilize ultrasound for superior guidance of joint injections. SUPARTZ KNEE INJECTION Hyaluronic Acid is a substance found naturally within the joint capsule of the knee and can be used to help patients with osteoarthritis (OA) of the knee. It helps to lubricate the joint for movement as well as alleviate knee pain caused by osteoarthritis (OA) in patients who have already been treated with pain relievers (e.g., acetaminophen) and other treatments that did not work well. Typical protocol is 1 knee injections per week for 4-5 weeks. Relief can be seen for as long as 6-12 months. ULTRASOUND GUIDANCE Our medical staff is trained in ultrasound guidance using a diagnostic ultrasound machine. The objective of ultrasound guidance is to help pinpoint the appropriate area for the injection. This can help with better results than non ultrasound guided injections.
